Our history:

La Alondra has not always been as it is known today. It began in 1956 as the life project of a humble family, in a small town in Valladolid called Villaverde de Medina. Those who started this business were my grandparents, who although they were from agricultural origins, decided to try their luck in the world of fish; They started from very low, receiving the fish at the train station in Medina del Campo and Nava del Rey. They received this directly from Coruña packaged with ice, so it was always a very fresh product; At first their means of transportation was a bicycle, which they prepared to be able to transport one or two boxes of assorted fish. My grandfather used this to take him to the next town, Nueva Villa de las Torres. Meanwhile, my grandmother carried it in a wicker basket and sold it around her town. After about three years, my grandfather changed his bike for a motorcycle prepared to transport several boxes of products, and my grandmother changed his basket for a very well prepared two-wheeled cart. In 1965 the business continued to prosper, so they acquired a van and began to go get the fish from Mercaolid. Already in 1969 my grandmother left the sale and my mother at the age of 14 began to sell in Villaverde, first with the cart, until after 4 years she got her driving license, and was able to expand her sales area to three more towns. . In 1977 my parents got married, and my mother, who was still with the business, decided to teach my father; They continued street vending and expanded to more towns. They bought another van to be able to offer a better service. In 1982 they opened their first fishmonger in Nava del Rey, and decided to call it “La Alondra”, referring to the bird of Castilla y León and also thinking about originality, since most fishmonger names referred to fish or people. They also continued with street sales and years later they expanded the business by setting up a supermarket in the Plaza de Nava del Rey, the star section of which was always the fishmonger. My parents maintained this business and lived off it until their retirement.
